This was a Benedictine convent in Cumbria said to have been founded in 1089. The Nunnery had experienced ongoing impediments and threats to its very existence.
We will be interested to discover whether the nuns of Armathwaite deserved the title of Mediaeval Forgers for their compilation charter, created after they claimed loss of their original documents during Scottish raids.

A large team of 78 or more female and male volunteers will attempt to pull Andrew Woodhouse Haulage’s 11.5 ton wagon from Devils Bridge, Kirkby Lonsdale, 10.5 miles through the Yorkshire Dales to Busk Lane in Sedbergh where they will have refreshments in the Hirst Centre supported all day by Terry Harding Burger Van.
