Roman period through to the early Medieval era. A vicus settlement and Roman
cemetery, east of Brocavum Roman fort has been found. The cemetery has had one of
the most substantial scientific excavations in recent years, with over 340 confirmed
graves and an abundance of intricate grave goods.

United Utilities are planning to start work replacing a water supply pipe in the playing field on Howgoll Lane from Wednesday 1st July 2026. They will at some point need to carry out a road closure to a small section of Howgill Lane beside the playing field in order to complete the connections. The closure will be carried out during the evening or weekends.
