Admission: £70

The pastel workshop is suitable for all abilities. The theme is the Landscape in Autumn and you will be working from photographs to create your own unique pastel drawing. Your tutor Anne Mackinnon will start the session by showing you a few techniques and tips on using soft pastels and then she will talk with you individually as you work. You will be encouraged to explore colour, light and texture in the landscape and to develop your own use of pastel.
Please bring with you:
Photos to work from (possibly on an iPad).
A selection of soft pastels. It is best to buy single sticks, of colours that you wish to use. These should be of a good quality (Unison or Sennelier) rather than a cheaper set.
Tinted or coloured paper. The paper need not be pastel paper but should be of a good quality. Youddells Art Shop, in Kendal, has a good range.
A board to lean on and a small easel if you have one.
Rags.
Apron.
If you have any issues with buying these items, there will be pastels and paper available on the day which can be purchased.

Anne Mackinnon
My studio is in the grounds of Farfield Mill and is set in the midst of magnificent countryside with an endless source of inspiration just outside the door. I paint in watercolour and mixed media and have a special interest and love of working with soft pastels.

I find inspiration in the hills and Dales of the North of England, and I love gardens, both to visit and paint. I am inspired by the changing colours and moods of landscapes and gardens throughout the year. My work is widely exhibited and is continually on display in Farfield Mill. It is also held in many collections throughout the world.
