There are earthworks and stone remains of a late Iron Age settlement built about 2,000 years ago.
This settlement of family groups has the remains of houses and fields within a substantial curvilinear stone bank. It has round houses within the enclosure defined by circular stone banks or small platforms and by changes of vegetation.
There is a stone-edged trackway that leads from it toward the base of Cautley Spout. The interpretation panel gives details about this Brigantes era settlement which dates from around 20 AD. In medieval times a sheepfold was built over it.
