Vanessa worked for vice, robbery and drugs squads before becoming the first female West Yorkshire Police murder squad detective. Later she was hand-picked to create and develop the first cyber crime team for the force. She also represented the UK at the Hague in her work to combat human trafficking. She headed child safeguarding teams investigating complex abuse cases and oversaw the management of registered sex offenders. Her final role was leading counter terrorism investigations.
