Beginning with some of Purcell’s best-known songs, the recital includes Schubert’s dramatic song ‘Der Liedler’ (a tale of the supreme sacrifice for love made by a wandering minstrel, with werewolves included) and Beethoven’s ‘An die ferne Geliebte’. The programme includes Tippett’s virtuosic cantata, ‘Boyhood’s End’ based on WH Hudson’s memoir of his childhood in the Argentine pampas.
