Email: reception@farfieldmill.org

Admission: £80 plus £5 for a leather handle (optional)

During the day, you’ll learn traditional willow weaving techniques and choose your basket base before shaping and weaving your own unique handmade basket. You can opt to make a smaller egg basket-style piece or a slightly larger basket — perfect for carrying small essentials or for trips to your local shop. Each basket will be finished with a stylish leather handle, adding both strength and character to your finished piece.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some creative experience. Jackie will guide you step by step, making the process enjoyable, rewarding, and wonderfully mindful.

You’ll leave with a completed basket to use and treasure, along with new skills you can continue to develop at home.

About Your Tutor – Jackie Carnell

Jackie Carnell works from her home in the village of Nenthead, high up in the Pennine Hills of Cumbria, where she weaves baskets in her workshop overlooking the beautiful surrounding fells.

She grows much of her own willow, with a small willow bed at the bottom of her garden and a larger one in Brampton. This means the willow used in the workshop is locally sourced and sustainably grown — travelling only a short distance from field to finished basket, with no air miles involved.
