Saturday 28th January 2023 - Wednesday 1st February 2023 8:00pm

Location: M6 Junction 37

Website: https://www.nationalhighways.co.uk/

The following information supplied by National Highways.

This letter is to inform you of essential work to replace joints on the bridge section of the A684 that spans the M6 at junction 37. As part of the scheme, we will also replace the kerb drainage along the full length of the bridge, resurface the road and replace road markings and studs.

Not taking action to maintain the bridge now risks the safety of road users in the future.

Work is due to start on Saturday 14 January 2023 and is expected to be completed on Thursday 2 February 2023.

To safely carry out the work, several overnight road closures of the A684 at junction 37 will be required over the following dates:

  • Saturday 14 January to Sunday 15 January 2023, reopening to traffic at 6am on Monday 16 January 2023.
  • Saturday 28 January to Wednesday 1 February 2023, reopening to traffic at 6am on Thursday 2 February 2023.

To reduce the disruption to motorists, we will carry out our work overnight (8pm to 6am) when traffic levels are lowest.

Diversion routes will be in place while full road closures are in effect and will be clearly signposted.

Road users will be diverted to junction 36 of the M6. This official diversion route reflects the weight limit on a bridge south of Tebay on the A685 which makes this diversion route to junction 38 of the M6 unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles.

Local diversion routes will not be advertised.

In addition to the full road closures listed, we will also need to close slip roads at junction 37 of the M6 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for the safety of our staff and road users:

  • Monday 16 to Friday 20 January 2023 – junction 37 northbound exit slip road to the A684 will be closed, reopening at 6am on Saturday 21 January 2023.
  • Monday 23 to Friday 27 January 2023 – junction 37 southbound exit slip road to the A684 will be closed, reopening at 6am on Saturday 28 January 2023.

Diversion routes will be in place while slip road closures are in effect and will be clearly signposted.

We always aim to work to schedule. However, unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather mean slight changes can occur at short notice.

While we will do everything in our power to reduce disruption as much as possible, we would like to apologise in advance for any disturbance this work may cause you.

Kind regards,
Lottie Dolderson
