Jean Pearson moved to Sedbergh with her husband when work brought him here. She bought the business from its previous owner in 1985 and has built it up into one with an international reach – sales to Japan, for example, have grown substantially, and Farfield Clothing products are distributed across Europe.

Jean brought the business into town from Farfield Mill in 1999 and established it at the old British School on Joss Lane; the building houses design, production, the administration office and a large factory shop on the ground floor, as well as a wide stock of second-hand books.

All Farfield Clothing’s products – a collection of outdoor clothing for adults and children – are unique and made from fleece specially manufactured for them in Yorkshire.

Jean welcomes visitors to the factory shop and says that the feedback they give on products is invaluable. Since the factory is upstairs, designs can be altered if customers wish. Farfield Clothing fleeces can be bought via their website as well as in the shop.
