March 2021 – New Directors & Front Desk Volunteers Needed for Sedbergh Information Centre

Sedbergh Community Interest Company, which runs Sedbergh Information Centre, is looking for two new directors to join our management team. In particular we would like to find someone with a knowledge of small business accounting because our long-standing Finance Director, Douglas Thomson, is stepping down. We would also like to find a second new director, ideally someone with a broad range of skills and a willingness to help where required. You wouldn’t need to make a big commitment. We hold a monthly management meeting, and directors also take on a variety of tasks depending on their interests and availability.

We are a not-for-profit community-based company limited by guarantee. Our job is to support the local economy by attracting visitors to the area who will hopefully spend money here! We provide information to visitors and locals alike, sell maps, guides and gifts. We also sell a large range of second-hand books from a number of dealers as part of Sedbergh Book Town. In addition we are responsible for the Visit Sedbergh website. We work closely with other organisations such as the Chamber of Trade, the Parish Council and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We have a paid centre manager, but everything else is done by volunteers.

If you don’t want to become a director but would still like to get involved we are always looking for volunteers to help out behind the front desk. It’s an enjoyable and interesting way to spend a half day, either as a regular commitment or on an occasional basis.
