Markets are held every Wednesday of the year (except sometimes between Christmas and New Year) on Joss Lane town centre car park adjacent to the Information and Book Centre. The market plays an important role in the life of the town; it provides a focus (along with the coffee mornings in the Cornerstone Community Church Rooms on Joss Lane nearby, the Library on Main Street and a morning church service) for residents, especially from outlying districts, to meet, catch up and stock up.

The market has stallholders who sell a range of staple produce. Most weeks you will find artisan baked breads, eggs from a Dentdale farm, wet fish, tray bake confectionery and biscuits, fruit and vegetables, meat and goat’s milk and cheese, as well as a long-established charity bric-a-brac stall, the NatWest mobile bank on Main Street (between 10 and 11 on Wednesday mornings) and occasional car boot stalls.

The market trades from 8:30am, closing early to mid afternoon dependent upon the season and the weather. Some parking is available on the car park while the market is in operation, although you may be better advised to park on Loftus Hill car park and walk down Main Street.

New and occasional traders are welcome. Pitch fees start at £3 for car booters and traders operating directly from their vehicles and there are gazebos and tables for hire.
