Where is it?

The Community Office is located above Sedbergh Tourist Information Centre. Access is via steps adjacent to the Information Centre or, by steps or ramp, from Joss Lane car park in the town centre. The office, principally, but not exclusively, serves the parishes of Sedbergh, Dent and Garsdale.

Opening hours

Supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, we endeavour to be open, all year Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10.00am until 4.00pm. Thursdays, (April to October only), from 10am to 1pm. Please contact to confirm hours before visiting at Christmas or bank holidays.

The Role of the Community Office

To encourage and enable residents to engage in constructive dialogue about the well being of our community, to feel involved in, responsible for, and able to participate in sustaining or improving the quality of community life.

To provide support and advice for individuals, groups and associations wishing to undertake projects that will strengthen and improve community provision, or conserve or enhance the local environment.

To strengthen links between the community and strategic partners.

To provide a range of services on behalf of Sedbergh Parish Council and South Lakeland District Council and to provide information about a wide range of statutory and voluntary services and charitable organisations.

Services and Resources available at the Community Office Include

Parking Permits We issue residents parking permits for Sedbergh Parish Council car parks at Joss Lane and Loftus Hill
Travel Concessions On behalf of SLDC, we issue applications for over 60’s NOW cards and concessionary travel passes for the disabled
Concerns complaints and compliments If you have a concern, enquiry or complaint about local facilities or services (footpaths, pavements, roads, conveniences or perhaps inconveniences) and you are unsure who to contact, we can help. We do also very much like to pass on the occasional compliment.
Computer and Internet Access Email, web browsing and word processing facilities are available during office hours for a small charge.
Advice and Signposting We have a wide range of information relating to personal and social wellbeing, statutory services and voluntary agencies, which may be of help to you in accessing appropriate advice and support.
Notice Board We display notices about job vacancies, volunteering opportunities, community events etc.
Eco Sales We sell a range of eco friendly cleaning/domestic products offering a greener alternative to other locally obtainable cleaners.
Recycling Domestic batteries, computer cartridges, mobile phones etc can be brought for recycling. The recycling collection point for newspaper, cardboard, glass and household plastic is on the Joss Lane car park adjacent to the Community Office
Meeting Room A meeting room is available which can comfortably accommodate 8.
Sedbergh Markets We administer the weekly Sedbergh market and organise the Producers’ Market held on the last Wednesday of the month.
Community Fund and Charity Shop The Community Office administers the Sedbergh and District Community Fund (Registered Charity No. 1056692) and manages the Community Charity Shop at 86 Main Street, the proceeds from which go into the Community Fund and are then made available to support projects of benefit to the community.
Flicks in the Fell Community Cinema We receive enquiries and sell tickets on behalf of Flicks in the Fells Community Cinema, established as a Community Office project
Community Allotments We receive enquiries relating to the allotments, recently established as the result of a Community Office initiative.
Sedbergh Parish Council Office Sedbergh P C has an office located within the Community Office, and the Parish Clerk will be available on most Wednesdays from 11am to 2pm to receive and respond to the queries and concerns of residents. Appointment preferred. Planning applications, minutes of Parish Council meetings etc are available to view at other times via the Community Office.
Local History Archive Run by the Sedbergh & District History Society, the archives hold copies of parish registers, graveyard recordings, censuses etc. and an extensive collection of photographs dating from around 1858. This wonderful archive is available to view during office hours, or by appointment.
Yorkshire Dales National Park Ranger Paul Wilkinson, Park Ranger has a base within the Community Office, and we are happy to pass on enquiries.
