Plot rents, paid annually, vary according to the size of plot (currently ranging from £12 to £34) and there is a membership fee of £5.00 on joining the Association. All plots are presently allocated but the Association operates a waiting list.
Members of the Association are committed to organic methods of cultivation. Whilst no buildings are permitted on the plots there is a purpose-built shed on site which is available for all plot holders to store tools and equipment. A range of communal tools is also provided. A mains water supply is installed. The Association is affiliated to the National Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardeners Ltd which operates a seed purchasing scheme for members at discounted prices.
The allotments were established in 2009 with funding provided by the Sedbergh & District Community Fund, Cumbria County Council’s Neighbourhood Forum, Sedbergh Parish Council and the Friends of the Lake District.
Should you have any enquiries regarding the Birks Lane site or wish to be included on the Association’s waiting list, please contact the Secretary, Ann Parratt (tel. 07443 580960) or the Chairman, Jim Atkins (tel. 015396 20031)
