In this workshop, artist Stuart Gray shares with you his passion for capturing the character of the the Nuthatch from his recent exhibition ‘Song of Silence’.

Stuart is fascinated by the way light and shadow really brings a subject to life and really lift the composition with some simple colour choices.  You will work in a little more detail to capture the face and beak and some of the feathers. You will discover how to vary the tones in the background to create extra interest, without detracting from the focal point.

All abilities are welcome whether you want to develop your artistic abilities or find your inner artist! Stuart will frame your artwork ready for you to take home to impress your friends and family.

STUART GRAY

Stuart Gray has been an ‘illustrator’ and ‘graphic designer’ since leaving college in the early seventies. He has worked in several studios before becoming a lecturer at Wigan School for the Arts in 1994.
He retired from being a lecturer a few years ago and started to work with his partner Ruth Clayton in the successful Wickerfish art studio at Cedar Farm Galleries in Mawdesley, Lancashire teaching adults the basics of drawing and painting.

They closed the business in January 2016 and relocated to Sedbergh in Cumbria. He now works at Farfield mill in Sedbergh with Ruth where they have a studio. Stuart works with different media but his specialism is acrylic. He enjoys painting landscapes and still life and he has filled a fair number of sketchbooks over the years!
