The Write Idea: Late Summer Book Events in Sedbergh, 17th to 25th September

This year our Books & Drama Festival has a new name, The Write Idea, and though the number of events is smaller than in previous years (cultural projects are having to trim their cloth just like the rest of us!) we believe we have retained the quality of speaker that audiences have come to expect.

Saturday 18th September 2010 - The Coldstream Guards in Afghanistan Top

In this talk organised by the Sedbergh branch of the Royal British Legion a serving officer, Major Simon Carpenter of the Coldstream Guards, reports on his recent tour in Afghanistan..

After his talk Major Carpenter will be open to questions about the role of the British Army in Afghanistan.

Wednesday 29th September 2010 - Local Produce and Farmers Market Top

Sedbergh's Producers' Market aims to give locals and visitors alike a large choice of locally produced, quality products which include both food and craft items.

Location: Joss Lane Car Park, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Saturday 23rd October 2010 - Royal British Legion Golden Poppy Riders and Sedbergh Town Band Top

To mark the first day of this year's Poppy collections the Royal British Legion Motorcycle group are aiming to cover as much of Cumbria as possible in one weekend and will be carrying a Gold Poppy around the county. This will be transferred to the lead rider on every leg with it being auctioned off at the end of the ride. The riders route passes through Sedbergh where they will parade through the town with the Royal British Legion Standard and will be met at the car park by Sedbergh Town Band who will play a concert of appropriate music. Tea and buns will be available as will poppy collectors.
