The Write Idea: Late Summer Book Events in Sedbergh, 17th to 25th September
This year our Books & Drama Festival has a new name, The Write Idea, and though the number of events is smaller than in previous years (cultural projects are having to trim their cloth just like the rest of us!) we believe we have retained the quality of speaker that audiences have come to expect.

This event runs from Friday 12th November to Sunday 14th November Learn songs about the building of this magnificent mountain railway and sing them on the train, in the stations, on walks through these wild hills ....and round the fires of country pubs. Settle Voices and the Sedbergh singers have been invited to join the Saturday night concert in Chapel le Dale, a tiny fellside church where over 400 navvies who built the railway are buried - followed by singing in the Hill Inn afterwards.

The Concert is part of the Dent Folk Carols Festival and features the Gladly Solemn Sound choir, Thomas Hardy stories with fiddlers, and visiting choirs. Followed by singing in the pub.

This event runs from Friday 3rd December to Sunday 5th December This annual festival is always well attended and includes a varied programme of workshops to learn the old folk carols sung in churches in the Yorkshire dales and also in pubs throughout Yorkshire and Derbyshire. The festive midwinter Singing Walk will include songs which everyone can join in with as well as songs from visiting choirs - referred to last year by a visiting Scottish choir as: "Extreme Carolling!"
Location: Dent Admission: Workshops and walk £10 each. Pub singaround - free. Saturday evening meal and singing/dancing/music/story night - £10. Whole weekend without accommodation and meals £49.
